If you live anywhere in Texas you know how hard it is to actually look put together in the summer without sweating your ass off in the process. There’s nothing like wanting to literally peel your own clothes off at the end of the day and take a cold shower! You really only have a few options when the weather is in the low 100s; stay inside and blast the AC on 60 all day, go to Barton Springs and soak for hours in the 60 degree water, or just suffer in little to no clothing at all if you’re planning to be outside longer than 10 minutes. So how does one look remotely cute in these conditions?!
At the beginning of every summer while the weather is still somewhat tolerable I tell myself that I am actually going to look presentable in blog worthy clothing despite the heat and humidity. I’m 100% notorious for doing this too… I buy the cutest summer clothes and NEVER wear any of them! Why? Because its brutally hot and humid here in the dead of the summer and I will sweat through anything I have on my skin. What I think is a good summer wardrobe plan only works if I am traveling somewhere a little cooler and less humid. And don’t even get me started on the weather in Tulum! 😳 Gorgeous with a side of 100% humidity!
My usual go-to summer look is the shortest shorts I can find that still seem to cover my butt, some sort of tank top or top thats breathable, minimal makeup and the same Tory Burch flip flops. When I try and think back of what I wore last summer I draw a blank… There was no variety whatsoever unless I was shooting, so this summer I am going to stick with my original plan and attempt to look super stylish if I leave my house! No matter where I’m going.
Obviously, I will still be living in a variety of my favorite cutoff shorts (listed below) but I will definitely be smart about choosing appropriate tops. I just want to give a little info. on these shorts I listed in the scroller. They are listed as low-rise but some of my clients in their 40s obsess over these shorts because they fit absolutely amazing and they are affordable. They do run a little small so make sure to order a size or two up since they fit around your hips and not your waist. Trust me, you will love them.
Now, on to tops. What I look for in a good summer top is something that is versatile, comfortable and doesn’t touch my arm pits in anyway. 😂 You probably think I’m being over dramatic, but I’m serious, for me its rough because I’m a sweater!! I’ve linked a few Splendid tops I have been eyeing this summer that will make their way into my closet very soon!
Who else is familiar with Splendid? I have been a HUGE fan of the brand for years. I first started wearing their clothing back in my college days and am still a loyal customer! They are notorious for having the softest fabric known to man and that is a major reason I am still coming back for more. At this point, I think half of my closet is made up of Splendid pieces and I don’t see that changing anytime soon! I even have shirts from my college days that are still as soft as ever! Definitely worth the money!
