{Why High Low Dresses are the Most Flattering}

Party in the front, business in the back. If you’ve been reading my blog for even a week you would have noticed that I love a great high low dress or skirt. I briefly touched on my obsession for this style in my last blog post but wanted to dedicate a full story on why high low dresses are the most flattering for every body type. What I love about the high low style is that it has been around for years. It was never an overbearing trend that you had to worry about going out of style.

First things first; what exactly are high low dresses?

AKA the the waterfall hemline. It is a dress or skirt that has a higher hem in the front, like a normal cocktail length dress would have but then is much longer in the back like a gown or maxi dress.

I’m sure y’all are wondering WHY these high low dresses are the most flattering. For as long as I can remember, the high low style has been one of my go-to cuts for years. I mean, even my wedding dress was a high low style! You wouldn’t know it but I do have a very interesting body type that is quite hard to fit. Most everything that is peplum or high low is a winner for me. If you’ve been reading my blog for any amount of time, you’ll know that I have an extremely long torso that is a nightmare to deal with.  This means my torso is just as long or longer than my actual legs. Along with shorter legs I have to deal with my giant soccer thighs. I’ve found that for me, this type of style helps elongate my legs to mask how short they actually are. I ALWAYS wear heels or wedges with this type of cut to give my legs the extra length they need.

My favorite type of high low dresses would have to be dresses or gowns with an empire waist. These dresses work really well for practically every body type; large, small and everything in between. Not only does this style give a slimming effect but it masks that extra cushion we have in our tummies, booties and thighs! You still get the illusion of having an amazing figure with a tighter bodice which goes into a flowing skirt to show those sexy legs! The dress I am wearing in the photos is a great example. The top is form fitting which opens up into a beautiful gown with just a peek of my legs. I always try and wear a pair of killer heels with these types of dresses or skirts. It’s like their just asking to have all of the attention on them!

Another great thing about this style is that high low dresses can be extremely subtle or exaggerated. Funny enough, my last blog post featured a gorgeous high low skirt. That skirt would definitely be an exaggerated high low style. The front portion of the skirt was extremely short and they back was dramatically long and flowing. I don’t think that skirt would appeal to everyone but damn, it was a sexy one! The gown I am currently wearing is considerably more subtle. It has just the right amount of leg showing to make it eye catching enough. This is a dress that would be appealing on practically everyone.

Last but not least, this style works for practically every age! Obviously, not every high low cut is going to work for a certain age or body type but there are hundreds of different cuts of this style you are bound to find that perfect dress!
