It’s that time of the year again! Kentucky Derby party planning is in full swing. If you’re like me you procrastinate anything Kentucky Derby until it’s too late. Unlike most of the prior years, I have taken it upon myself to get a couple of posts ready to share some outfit ideas. Who all is planning to actually go to the Derby?? And who else is throwing a party or going to one?? I’ll just be dreaming about throwing a small gathering since I literally have no home right now! I will be living vicariously through everyone else’s posts this year!
DERBY INSPIRED WHITE TWO PIECE SET
This post wasn’t originally going to be about the Kentucky Derby whatsoever. After I had a couple people tell me that this white two piece set look would be perfect for a Derby party I figured I might as well make this post Derby inspired. Sadly, I missed the mark on the hat… but like I said before, this was just going to be your everyday outfit post.
What I loved about this look is the fact that this white two piece set looks like your average little white dress. Upon closer inspection (or just reading the blog heading) you will see it is actually a two-piece set! I included another one of my favorite sets in the scrollers to shot above and below as well. If you missed that post a while ago, check it out HERE.
Anyway, to me, this white two piece set would make an amazing Derby look. You always see the typical pastel colored cocktail type dresses or even maxi dresses. I don’t know if I have ever seen anyone wear a two-piece set. You would be ready to rock with a fun floppy hat or fascinator to accentuate this Derby look! Since this look wasn’t necessarily planned for the derby I wore black accents which might be a little too harsh for Kentucky Derby Style. I envision pastel colored dresses, preppy men’s style and lots of crazy hats. If you are going with a white or light colored look I would opt for soft colored accents and nude heels or even a fun Spring color.
Sizing wise; I ordered a small in this white two piece set. Normally, I wear my skirts extremely high waisted so you don’t see any midriff. I wanted the smallest size possible that would fit my waist the best. The top is pretty short so if you are like me, I would try and go with a size skirt that will fit higher up. Thankfully there the skirt is roomy in the hip area if you have a bigger booty and hips! 😜
