Does anyone else out there suffer from the occasional feeling of insomnia? You’re absolutely exhausted but your braid just won’t shut off? This is me, ALL the time, especially over the past couple of days since Hurricane Harvey hit Texas. My mind has been racing constantly wondering how people are doing on the coast, what I can do to help, dealing with my own issues at my house from the weather, etc. It’s been never ending! Not to mention, I seem to have sleeping issues either way but when something big is happening or I’m in desperate need of a good night’s rest I can’t, for the life of me, fall asleep. I refuse to take sleeping pills so I have found a few (5 to be exact) things that have helped me get to sleep a little easier without taking pills. Obviously, you don’t have to do all of these things in one night but maybe try them over the span of a week and see if you notice a difference.
Tip #1 would be to take a nice warm, relaxing bath. Throw in a yummy bath bomb to add a relaxing scent to the water. Just sitting in that water and closing your eyes always makes me so relaxed and ready to crawl into bed.
Tip #2 after getting out of the bath I like to throw on a silk sleep mask. I don’t know about y’all but I have to have my room pitch black to fall asleep and stay asleep! One of my favorite masks I’ve come across is this Branché eye pillow that is made out of silk. They are great for both your eyelashes and skin. Did you know they actually prevent the development of sleep lines? Yes, please! You are literally getting your beauty sleep.
Tip #3 would be to drink a warm cup of tea while laying in bed. There are some really good teas that helps you relax and get a good night’s sleep such as chamomile, lavender, and lemon balm. There are specific sleepy time teas that work extremely well too.
Tip #4 that I love is putting lavender essential oils on your pillowcase or on a paper towel next to your pillow. Just like lavender tea, the scent of lavender has a soothing smell to our bodies and once again is supposed to help make you fall asleep easier and quicker. You can also try an essential oil diffuser. I picked one up after I had my shoulder surgery so I could relax a bit more and it worked wonders.
Tip #5 is if you are still feeling restless is to pick up good book. I know as an adult I feel like I have less and less time to read, but if I am able to pick up a book for even 30 minutes a night it will not only help relax my mind but help me have a nice, peaceful sleep. Plus, it’ll actually motivate me to finish one of those books I’ve started but never had the time to finish.
Hopefully y’all are able to try out some of these tips and have them work! I’d love to know if any of them actually helped you guys out! Also, let me know if y’all have any other things that have been working for you guys because I would LOVE to try them out!!

This is such great advice!! I am going to try these tips tonight
It’s rare that I have trouble falling asleep, but if I’m having trouble shutting my mind off I’ll set my meditation timer and then I’m usually out! I really wish I spent 30 minutes before bed reading every night though, it is the perfect way to end the day!
