{How YOU can help save Children’s Lives}

{How YOU can help save Children’s Lives}

2019 was one of the best and worst years of my life. Not only did I have my own personal struggles but my best friend was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer. I vowed to myself that 2020 was going to be a year of reflection, personal growth and change. This is the year that I put the majority of my focus on what I can do to help others. I am so grateful to have a voice and an influence to spread the word on what we can do to lend a hand to those in need.  Especially when it comes to the current This Shirt Saves Lives campaign from St. Jude’s Hospital.

By now it’s no surprise that I love helping others and donating my time and/or money whenever I possibly can. I’ve absolutely loved sharing those experiences with y’all. It makes me so happy to see how excited and inspired y’all have been to go out and do something kind for humans and even helpless animals.

Which brings me to this post and how y’all can get involved. This post is going to be all about two of my favorite things; dirt bikes and donating. I’m sure y’all are wondering how these go hand-in-hand so let me give you a little backstory. For as long as I can remember, my dad and I have had a bond over dirt bikes. I’ve always been a tomboy at heart and I don’t think that will ever change. It’s always something that will bring me closer to my dad and I absolutely love that. He lives a few hours away so we don’t see each other as often as I would like but we always make time to watch Supercross together every Saturday evening. We’ll text each other saying “Are you ready for Supercross?! 10 more minutes!” And then we text our race commentary throughout.

We have really made it our thing and it’s something I look forward to every weekend. Back in 2017 we actually started attending some of the races. We started off with the biggest and very last race of the season in Las Vegas. After that, life would never be the same. We were hooked! We started making plans to attend all of the Texas races each season.

Last year, I really wanted to make my attendance more meaningful and worthwhile. I wanted to provide some value instead of my buddy Sean just thinking we were mooching tickets off of him! Of course, I always post on Instagram and the blog but I knew there was more I could be doing. I knew Supercross had an affiliation with St. Jude from seeing their This Shirt Saves Lives campaigns during each race. Sean had the brilliant idea of having me in one of the St. Jude shirts out on the track to post on Instagram to drum up some interest and donations from a new audience. So, of course, I was in!

Keep reading to find out how YOU can get a St. Jude shirt!

I’ve added some of the photos below from last year’s Houston race. We had an absolute blast shooting these photos on the track before the race started.

This Shirt Saves Lives Campaign

So when the 2020 season rolled around, I knew I wanted to be involved. I immediately started brainstorming ideas and prepared to pitch them to Monster Energy’s PR manager at the Arlington race. For starters, we needed to re-shoot some updated This Shirt Saves Lives photos since they came out with a new grey color. Sean told me there was a new color coming out and I was like…Oh… You know I don’t wear color right!? Turns out, their new color was grey. 🤣 Glad we’re all on the same page about color thats not really colorful.

Anyway, my meeting couldn’t have gone better. I threw all of my ideas on the table, we brainstormed and came up with some epic plans! I can’t wait to share them with y’all once we get more details nailed down.

We also got some awesome shots on the Arlington track before the main races started. My photographer friend, Tyler Tate, that I met in Vegas shot the pics below.

I’ve had quite a few of y’all ask how you can get one of these shirts and how you can help. It is all about your donations! Sign up HERE and donate $20 or more per month and get a St. Jude This Shirt Saves Lives T-shirt. Show the world that you help save lives! Please note: This gift is limited to U.S. residents only. Non-U.S. residents who choose to donate will not receive the T-shirt.

Because this post is about saving a child’s life by donating to St. Jude, I wanted to give y’all a little history.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. “Our mission is clear: Finding cures. Saving children.®”

  • Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food—because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
  • Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped increase the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since we opened more than 50 years ago. We won’t stop until no child dies from cancer.
  • St. Jude conducts more clinical trials for childhood cancer than anyone else.
  • St. Jude is where doctors often send their toughest cases, because St. Jude has the world’s best survival rates for some of the most aggressive forms of childhood cancer.

And if you thought donating directly to St. Jude was the only way you can help, there’s more! The Tampa Supercross race was a dedicated St. Jude race where the riders gave their worn jerseys and their bike plastics to be put in a silent auction where all of the proceeds get donated to St. Jude. Click HERE for the auction.

The ring I am wearing above is a replica of Ryan Dungey’s 2016 Supercross Championship Ring! And it can be YOURS! Talk about an epic auction item. This baby was heavy! Official replica rings are rare and of limited production and this ring was replicated solely for the St. Jude auction generated by the partnership between Ryan Dungey, Monster Energy Supercross and St. Jude. This Ring comes with a light up custom display case, and an official Feld Motorsports letter of authenticity.

As always, a HUGE thank you to my amazing friend, Sean for making this all a possibility!

It means so much to me to have the honor of being a part of such a special movement. I love the fact that I can combine two of my passions, Supercross and helping others to bring more awareness to raise money to help cure childhood cancer. Please consider donating if you have anything to spare. Every single penny adds up and will make a huge difference in a struggling family’s life.

Now, who wants to see some race pics?!

The Arlington race was one of my favorites because it was a Triple Crown which means there are THREE main events! RJ Hampshire won the first race, Chase Sexton won the second race, and Shane McElrath won the third. The overall winner was Chase Sexton in the 250SX.

Eli Tomac ended up winning the 450SX overall. Ken Roczen came in second and Jason Anderson came in third after an EPIC battle.

And then one of the luckiest crashes at the end of the second main. Cooper Webb went down hard right in front of us and had to be carried off and carted away by the Alpine Stars medical staff. Luckily, he only had a hematoma with deep bone bruising to his pelvis and he was back racing in Atlanta the next weekend!

    I think it’s awesome that you share something like this with your dad. It sounds like the way my dad and I have bonded over basketball. We always text each other during major games with our thoughts and it’s so fun! I’m really sorry to hear about your friend’s diagnosis. However, I think it’s really incredible that you immediately made moves to see how you could spread awareness in a fashion that suits you and your platform. This particular campaign was made for you, and that’s equally awesome! ALSO I love the shirt, and I’m thinking I may need to get one for myself by donating!

    I’m so sorry to hear about your friend. One of my childhood friends had the same type of cancer, and I am pretty certain she was treated at St. Jude’s. They are such a great organization!
