{How to Stay Comfortable at a Festival}

{How to Stay Comfortable at a Festival}

Is it next week yet?? I always forget how intense SXSW is until I’m enthralled in the festivities! It’s day 4 for me and I’ve got 3 more long days to go. Wish me luck! I know I did a survival guide post on how to make it through SXSW but I really wanted to do a post on what people should be wearing as it’s currently fresh on my mind. There’s no better time to actually get this post up than the present! Plus I wanted to show off my favorite and comfiest look from SX so far! I’ll be sure to do a recap of what I wore once this week/weekend is over! That’s if I am still alive after that! HA!

The outfit in this post literally took me an hour to pick out. Shocking, I know. I always tell people to really pay attention to the Texas weather and that was the issue I was having! It was 55 outside and only going to get to 70 at it’s warmest… So, is that shorts weather?? Jeans?? Do I wear shorts and a long sleeve shirt? How boring and not cute is that?? After trying on 5 different pairs of jeans and top options I gave up. Who wants to look frumpy and boring at SX?? Even though, no one would have really noticed a bad outfit because most people look kinda terrible… Since when have people just stopped trying in this town?? Oh wait… that’s all the time!! SXSW is the one time you can dress edgy and ridiculous and get away with it, so I went back to the drawing board! In my frustrations I ended up settling on a pair of white cutoff shorts, gladiator sandals, a tank and my favorite suede jacket so if I did happen to get hot I could just take the jacket off. Which I did, and lugged around like some SX rookie.

Let me tell you, there’s really nothing wrong with jeans; I actually highly recommend people wear jeans. BUT I’m so glad I ended up wearing shorts… That 70 degree sun beating down on us felt like it was 90 outside! I’m definitely not complaining, but that’s why people need to really plan their outfits out because the weather here is deceiving. Thankfully, I was very comfortable and very glad I didn’t wear jeans like I was planning to. Unless the weather is going to be starting out in the 70s, bring a jacket of some sort. You can always take it off and throw it in a bag. It’s so hard to predict the weather here, so just be aware of what it might do during the day.

Definitely opt for comfy shoes. I chose a great pair of gladiators that are pretty comfy to walk around in. If you are really wanting to wear heels or booties make sure you aren’t going to be doing a ton of walking and if you are, then have someone drop you off so you can get to your location quick and find a seat! The first few days I’ve been wearing either booties or sandals. Booties on the days that we are parking close but flats when we are parking far away and planning to walk. Tomorrow is going to be a long walking day but I am just dying to wear my new Frye booties (the ones in this post!) so I might just suffer… They are extremely comfy but I don’t know how they’re going to do standing for 8 hours! I’ll keep you updated on that!

100% pack sunscreen or wear a hat and don’t forget your sunglasses! The sun is hot and it was a scorcher today. Thankfully, I wore a hat today but yesterday I got SO burnt! I mean, to the point I have gladiator sandal marks on my legs… It’s so ridiculous looking!

I know I have suggested to bring a backpack or a tote, which is definitely smart, but again, if you are wanting to look cute and carry something smaller then try and buy travel size products you might need. Tylenol, sunscreen, snacks, cash/CC, your phone, ID, put your sunnies, etc. I carried this black Rebecca Minkoff bag yesterday and an even smaller bag today and it wasn’t that bad. The only time I really felt like I needed something bigger was when I was actually getting merch. from places and had no where to put it. If that’s the case, then just think of your tiny bag saving you from taking unneeded stuff!

Those are the tips that I could think of right off the bat now that I’m home and relaxing, finally. I’ll be back at it tomorrow headed to Rainey St. and then Whole Foods! If you’re around, shoot me a message!!
