If you’re a blogger or influencer you have probably had brands ask if they can whitelist your posts on social media. Most of us, including me at one point, had absolutely no idea what this meant or how to even set something like this up. As I see more and more questions about it with more and more people tagging me asking me to explain it I figured an informative blog post would probably be the easiest and most effective way to spread the word on how to whitelist your social posts.
First things first. What exactly is whitelisting?
Many companies and brands implement whitelists as a way of helping them target ads to the right audience. Brands want to tap into the influencers audience using their voice while also making sure their ads only appear in pre-approved places. Back in the day, brands would pay for ad space on the web or on social and would risk the chance of their ads running next to inappropriate content or next to something that isn’t even relevant to what they are advertising. Whitelisting is geared towards a carefully targeted market to make sure their ad dollars are reaching the right audience. Whitelists also help brands figure out which influencers are most effective to their brand and product.
So what is in it for us, the influencer? We can get a bump in exposure to the particular brand’s audience and potential growth for our social accounts. Whitelisting could potentially introduce our social accounts to an entirely new audience.
How do you whitelist a post?
I’ve heard a lot of talk about brands not going through the process I am showing below and wanting access to your social accounts. The steps below are the safest and most effective way to whitelist your posts on Facebook and Instagram without sharing your personal information with the brand.
Once you have completed these steps the brand can now choose photos to whitelist so their ad dollars will be hard at work!
Great info! Thank you for the tutorial and tips!
Oh I was wondering about this! So helpful, thanks!
This was so helpful! Thanks girl.
Well thanks for this! The only non marketing and blogging perspective I could find on google! Lol
Thanks for sharing! Do you have any insight or resources on how to determine rates to charge a brand?

I have used a website called Social Blue Book and it is pretty accurate. 😉
Question so if a brand wants to whitelist, we as the influencer should definitely consider it? Are there any negatives or red flags we should be worried about?
Sorry for the delay! I personally feel like it is worth it because they are putting their own advertising dollars into promoting your post which means more eyes on your page, your website, etc.
This is so helpful!! How do you determine a rate if a brand is requesting to Whitelist your IG post? Would it be the same as a dedicated upload?
Great information, thank you! Do you happen to know how to whitelist influencer posts on Twitter? The influencer we are currently partnering with mentioned that it is possible but I’m not seeing very much information online on how to go about it.
I’m sorry, I actually don’t!
