{Tips to Transition your Summer Wardobe to Fall with Nordstrom}

Austin blogger DTKAustin shares tips on how to Transition your Summer Wardobe to Fall with a few key pieces like this Free People Cardigan or this Stella McCartney black bag. Click for more details and photos.

Did anyone else think today was Friday? I literally had a day to sleep in for once, woke up, got ready to do errands and completely blanked and didn’t realize it was Thursday. Anyway, my mom is coming in town from LA for the weekend and I am about to leave to go pick her up from the airport and head to a fun dinner. Talk about excited!! I haven’t seen her in what feels like months! With that being said I’ve gotta bust a move at getting this post live for you guys!

How many of y’all have summer pieces you’re not ready to give up yet for Fall? I’m going to give y’all some tips to easily bring those summer looks into Fall with Nordstrom. I’m sure I’ve said this so many times but layering is an absolute must for me, especially living in Texas. Our weather is all over the place when the seasons start changing so I have to have a completely separate wardrobe for those in-between temps. I know most of y’all are thinking…girl, its still hot as balls outside, why are you talking about Fall. WELL, let me tell you that since the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale started and ended I have been meticulously planning my wardrobe to get prepped for Fall.

Seriously though, when I start seeing chunky cardigans and sweaters my cold-weather loving self gets super excited! Not like we’re even going to be getting any sense of cold weather in the near future, a girl can dream. As well as crank the AC to 60 so I can cozy up in all of my winter wear. 😜 You all know that feeling! Craving fall weather, pumpkin spice lattes, blanket scarves… Just typing this is giving me all of the fall feels!!

So let’s talk about transitioning your wardrobe easily and affordably. I am all about affordable pieces when it comes to clothing (handbags, shoes and jewelry are another story which we will get to shortly). Since the weather doesn’t get extremely frigid here I am in love with layering. Not only is it comfortable but layering looks way better in photos too… Ha! But really, I now have to think about this stuff every time I get dressed. On another note – I think I am going to do a blog post on how blogging has change the way I get dressed everyday. My favorite look for Fall and winter would have to be black leggings, black OTKs or booties with a tank top and cozy cardi or moto jacket. Oh, and a beanie. Can’t forget the beanies! If you’re in state like Texas that can’t make up it’s mind with the weather, start stocking up on the cardigans. The cardigan I am wearing in these photos JUST came out and is the comfiest thing I’ve purchased in quite sometime. I love it because it’s not too heavy, it breathes and I can start wearing it around now.

I slowly start transitioning my wardrobe in August with mixing in some lightweight sweaters or cardigans with my tank tops and shorts. To make it a little less ridiculous looking I love throwing on a pair of booties to finish the look. These black booties were a part of the Anniversary Sale and are surprisingly still available in black.

Before I move on to the handbag I HAVE to talk about this top. Every single one of y’all have seen me wear these lace-up front tops all the time; like to the point y’all are probably annoyed. Anyway, I know quite a few of y’all fell in love with these tops but they were a little on the higher side of the budget. GOOD NEWS!!! WAYF came out with an almost identical top that is made to wear lace-front forward and is only $55!! They’re linked below and at the top of this post but seriously, get them soon because I know they are going to sell out extremely fast.

Now, on to this amazing handbag. I recently did a post about investment pieces for men and women and want to just add a little to that post since most everything there was on sale for the NSALE. One way I really justify spending over $1k for a handbag or investing in jewelry is price per wear. I am actually considering doing a full post on this but I will give you the Clif notes now. You can actually calculate how much a piece would cost with each wear to see if it is something that is actually worth your money purchasing.

CPW = Total cost of the item / Number of days you’ll wear it

Let’s use this handbag for example. It is around $1,100 which seems a little high at a glance. If you are one of those people looking for designer finds that will last you for years then a higher priced designer bag is probably for you. Just think, if you wore this bag everyday for a couple of years or even a year the price would be less than $3 a day. This is one way I can easily justify my designer purchases. I have an amazing Chanel watch that I bought about 10 years ago and it was extremely pricey… BUT I am STILL wearing it every single day after 10 years. Nordstrom has some amazing designer pieces right now that I have been eyeing, including a gorgeous pair of Christian Louboutin booties… Keep an eye out because you might see me wearing them soon!! Mainly because I have no self control when it comes to gorgeous shoes.

    I agree with your theory on investment pieces. I have a couple of investment pieces that I’ve owned for several years and they remain in style so they are well worth the price.

    Your article was so much fun and helpful to read since fall is coming and I have no idea what to do with my clothes. You mentioned that a favorite look for fall and winter is black leggings and booties with a jacket. That is a such a great basic outfit that can be dressed up or down for seasons. I will have to kick out my cowgirl books for the fall and match them with some leggings. Thanks for the advice.
