{Target’s Best Kept Gift-Card Secret}

Who else has a love/hate relationship with Target? You know, that problem where you go in needing a toothbrush and toothpaste and leave $300 later?? I seriously can’t remember the last time I left Target without spending at least $100… When I tell Grayson we need to go to Target, I see a slight fear in his eye because he knows we’ll be there at least an hour, NOT shopping for what we came for! He’s such a trooper! HA! We’re venturing out to Target in a few hours… I’ll keep you posted on if I actually stayed on track and get my toothbrush and toothpaste…and snacks… and another button down… and what else can I think of that I need?!

DTKAustin tells us how Target will trade in any gift card for a Target gift card in store.

Ok, so now that we all know that Target is the best/worst obsession of all time, they’ve been keeping a little secret from all of us… I guess it’s not technically a secret but I’ve legit never seen them advertise this until I was watching Rachel Ray, of all shows, and someone mentioned it on there. Immediately, I Googled to see if this was true, and sure enough, IT IS!! You’re dying to know, right?? And PLEASE tell me if this is something y’all have heard of before!

Target will trade in your gift cards that have existing balances on them for a Target gift card!

Hello, what?!

I can’t even begin to tell you how many stupid gift cards I have that I have either forgotten about or just won’t use because I can’t shop for clothes right now or I would never shop at that store in the first place. Yes, this comes at a price, but honestly, I don’t care!

There are plenty of websites that trade in your gift cards but you have to mail them in, wait for a check and then go cash that check. As often as we all shop at Target, this is more of a convenience thing. You literally walk into your store (check and make sure your store is participating) and you instantaneously get a Target gift card.

How does it work? I believe you take your card to either customer service or electronics and they will make you an offer up front based on the resale value of that specific gift card. For example, a $100 Forever 21 gift card can be traded in for an $85 Target gift card.

They do have a list of specific retailers that they will trade, so check this list and make sure the card you want to trade in is on there.

The one thing I love about this is that you can literally buy anything and everything from Target and I know my gift cards would never go to waste there. Yes, I’ll waste the gift card funds on crap I don’t need, but at least I can get everything I do need in there without feeling obligated to do unnecessary shopping at a store I wouldn’t normally shop at.

If y’all try this out, let me know how it goes!!

    OMG I had no idea this was a thing!!! Thanks for sharing, because seriously… no clue. I wonder how good the trade-in value is, though. Like, I think I’d rather keep the $100 to Forever instead of an $85 for Target. But I guess if you have a gift card for somewhere you really never shop it’s good.

      That’s how I feel! I have so many random cards for places that I’ve never shopped before and instead of just buying something to buy something I’d probably spend even more at Target! ha!
