Who doesn’t love a good OTS (off-the-shoulder) top and a great pair of linen pants?? I have practically been living in breathable fabrics with this outrageous Texas heat. If you live in Texas you know exactly what I’m talking about. The type of weather where you walk outside and before you’ve been standing there for 2 seconds you’re already drenched in sweat? Or when it gets to 115 degrees with 90% humidity, so you’re essentially living in a sauna?? I can’t say I love these Texas summers! That means I need to seriously be practical with what I’m going to wear out of the house.
Welcome to the very first look into my newly renovated house in Austin, TX! I am so excited to have partnered with Joss & Main to design one of my bedrooms to show off to all of my lovely friends, family and readers! Before you scroll down to see the finished project, I want to give everyone a little backstory on this house.
I started house hunting back in March of 2015 in Austin. As most of you Austin residents or future residents know, the market is out of control here and you are almost guaranteed to pay thousands upon thousands more than asking. Which is exactly what happened in my case. This house was the very first property I looked at and wasn’t convinced it was really for me. I put in an offer that day anyway and quickly realized I didn’t get it. I looked at 5-6 other homes in central and South Austin, put in offers, some over $30k over asking price and LOST them all! Finally, the financing fell through on this house (the first house I put an offer on) so I swooped in and I made another offer. The next day, I got the good news that it was mine fully knowing I would be spending way more than this house was actually worth being built in the 70s and also understanding I would be undertaking a full renovation.
Coming from an architecture and home renovation background, I quickly began ripping this place apart. Every single room was demolished, every inch of floor space was torn out and we went through 6 weeks of popcorn removal on every ceiling and WALL in a 2 story house… It was everywhere. We were also living in this mess the entire 6 month renovation. Fun times!
The room I am about to show you was actually the last room we actually got set up. We were waiting for the right time and right furniture that just made it feel perfect. And sure enough, I got the opportunity to work with Wayfair and we put together one cute, little room!
The design of this room is quite awkward. It was used as an office by the previous owners and you can somewhat see the popcorn and the nasty carpet. Currently, there is no popcorn, we retextured and painted everything white, added new trim, a new fan and now have polished concrete floors. The room has a cut-out to the left of the doorway which houses a dresser and some decor. We do have an amazing window box that we ended up keeping to enjoy all of the natural light that pours in that room everyday.

Welcome to Hotel Van Zandt in one of the hippest areas of Austin; iconic Rainey Street.
I’m going to start off this review of Van Zandt in a very unusual fashion. One of the best parts of my stay was the bathroom! And for a good reason; the bath tub and view were spectacular. For those that know me, I absolutely love a modern looking stand alone tub, add on top a lovely view of downtown Austin and I’m sold. The only guest who didn’t like the tub was Steven Jalepeño (my Brussels Griffon) because he couldn’t keep his watchful eye on mommy.
This brings me to the next coolest thing about the Van Zandt, it is pet friendly with no deposit required!! Steven really couldn’t complain since he got his own dog bed and bowls delivered to the room upon our arrival! He’s an extremely picky dog when it comes to his bedding and absolutely loved it. So much so, we are buying one online from the Van Zandt store.
The attention to detail in the room and the rest of the hotel was absolutely amazing. From little things like USB charging ports and a portable bluetooth speaker to the overall atmosphere created by the mid century modern furniture and Texas based artwork. That attention to detail wasn’t just in what you could see, but also in what you would hear as I explored the hotel. Lauren Bucherie is the resident musical expert that has handcrafted a song list for each individual section of the hotel. There’s a separate playlist for the lobby, for the restaurant, for the pool (and even underwater!), and for the elevators! This touch really set the mood for my entire stay and was a true testament to the Van Zandt for adopting that ‘weird’ Austin lifestyle.
HUGE thank you to the Hotel Van Zandt for making my stay and even Mr. Steven Jalapeño’s stay so memorable. We are already planning our next stay-cation!

Steven even got his own bed! He’s also trying to win a free trip from Kimpton, so go vote for him HERE!
Now, on to the fashion portion of the post!! I always have to do an outfit shoot in all of the cool places I stay and there was no exception here. The interior of this space is spectacular, as you can see from the photos above. The horn chandelier is one of my favorite pieces from this hotel so I had to try and incorporate them somehow.
This gorgeous dress is from Windsor and fit the scenery perfectly. The right amount of color against the industrial touches of the hotel’s exterior.

ACL goers are currently consuming the city of Austin for the next 2 weekends, and man, do we see a wide range of “fashion” out there! This is one of the busiest times of the year for me as so many people are wondering how to look cute yet stay extremely comfortable in this crazy Texas weather.
You will definitely be standing and walking around the majority of the day without an AC so comfort is key… First and foremost, bring sunscreen! Our Texas sun is HOT and is unforgiving! Not only will you get sunburned, you will get heat exhaustion if you aren’t careful. So, please, stay hydrated and wear sunscreen!
Now, to the fun stuff! Dressing for ACL is a project on it’s own so I wanted to make this easy for all of the fashion forward ladies out there!

As most of my long time followers know, not only am I a fashion blogger as of the past 9 months but have been a freelance commercial advertising wardrobe stylist for 5 + years. SXSW is normally a time I pack everything up and head out of town for some R&R until an amazing job comes along. I rarely post any of my wardrobe styling work since it doesn’t really tie in to fashion blogging, but this was too good not to share.
Lyft contacted me on my birthday to help out with, what I thought, was a campaign photoshoot during SXSW. Little did I know it was even COOLER!! They were planning an “activation” called Magic Mode since Lyft is the official rideshare partner of SXSW 2015. And man, did they go all out!
9 drivers, 9 cars.
Let me rephrase that – 9 drivers in full costume to go along with the 9 vintage + modern day sports cars. I’ve had quite a few friends already posting and texting that they were in some of the Magic Mode cars! This “activation” ran from Friday – Sunday to kick of SXSW.
Our awesome photog, Max Morse, snapped some of the character shots below before the drivers went out for the first day of driving. Like I said on my Instagram, this has definitely been the BEST project I have ever worked on in my years of wardrobe styling. The Lyft team is AMAZING and gave me full creative freedom on these costumes, and I have to say, they came out pretty dead on! Even the passengers commented on how accurate they looked compared to their cars. Gotta love hearing that! 🙂
Check out some of these shots and let me know if you rode with any of the drivers!!

I feel like this is a PERFECT post for a Throw Back Thursday! Not only have I had that Ezekiel shirt since high school, it STILL fits!!! I have to say, that shirt was like $35 back then and it has been well worth the money! Most shirts from high school or even college have totally fallen apart or just look like crap, but people, including me, still love this shirt!!

Welcome to Austin! I’ve been in Austin almost 6 years now have always wanted to take some photos in front of this mural. What a better time than a Style du Jour time!?
Also, notice the badass Molocat Cocktail shirt I’m wearing from Arm the Animals. A fellow blogger posted a photo of her in one of their shirts and I decided I had to order a few! If you haven’t heard of Arm the Animals, read on – “Arm The Animals creates killer T-Shirts that make a statement, raise awareness and generate funds for small, struggling animal rescues. We know we can’t save every “at-risk” animal, but we CAN save some! By creating funny, unique, witty graphic T-Shirts and accessories, we know we can raise awareness about animal welfare AND make a difference by donating to shelters! So, every month we donate a very generous portion of every sale we make to reputable shelters – no matter what!”
