{Safer Skincare Products for the New Year}

DTKAustin shares why you need to switch to safer, healthier skincare and beauty products along with what she recommends to use.

Do you ever wonder what is in the skincare and beauty products you use on a daily basis? Most of our beauty products are chocked full of harmful chemicals. These harmful chemicals eventually make their way into your body through your skin. It is so important to know exactly what goes into our body. Whether it be food, liquids or cosmetics, we all need to be aware. Sadly, the majority of the skincare products out there are harmful for our bodies. It’s taken me years to finally realize that I needed to make a drastic change to start living a healthier life, starting with my skin. Now that we are starting a brand new year, there’s no better time than the present!

I’ve been getting quite a few messages on Instagram about my daily skincare regimen. In this post I am going to share a few of my favorite beauty/skincare products that are safer alternatives that I swear by. Don’t get me wrong, I still use other beauty and cosmetic products that probably aren’t the best for my body but the products I am listing in this post are brands I use in the morning and evening every single day. This year’s focus is to implement healthier practices however I can. I mean, I’m not getting any younger!

Healthier beauty and skincare is something we ALL need to be paying attention to. There are more than 80,000 chemicals on the market today. Many don’t have any safety data. This is particularly true of those used in the skin care and beauty industry. If that isn’t enough to make you question your skincare regimen, listen to this. The United States has not passed a major federal law to regulate the safety of ingredients used in personal care products since 1938.

Raw Sugar has been one of my go-to skincare products for years now. I have actually been using their products before I was even blogging so it’s amazing to have been able to partner with them in 2017 to spread awareness on healthier skincare. Now that it is a new year I am continuing to spread the word on a few of the products I highly recommend from them.

What I love about these products is that they are crafted in Southern California with ethical, sustainable, cruelty free ingredients. That means, no sulfates or parabens. Rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals with the soothing properties of vanilla bean, this body wash will leave skin super clean and far better ready to receive all those delicious butters and moisturizers you love. Even better, they donate a bar of soap to a family in need with every single purchase.

By now, most of y’all have heard me rave about BeautyCounter. They have become a personal favorite of mine for the past 6 months. Why, you ask? BeautyCounter cosmetics are the SAFEST beauty products on the planet. Seriously, though. Their mission – To get safer products into the hands of everyone.

These products are perfect to use during the colder months when our skin is dry and itchy. Notice the prices too. They are extremely affordable which means you have no excuse to check them out! I could go on all day about the best products but listed out my top 4 products that I can’t live a day without.

Day and Night Cream – Lock in moisture throughout the day with our lightweight yet hydrating face cream. Easily absorbed and never greasy. Unscented formula contains a mix of organic coconut oil, safflower oil, and aloe to provide nourishing hydration, plus antioxidant-rich acai to protect against dry skin. The hydrating night cream nourishes skin while you sleep. Organic coconut oil and aloe hydrate while geranium and green tea protect against dryness.

Facial Oil – The BEST for dry skin! Just mix in a drop or two with your moisturizer and you are good to go! Blend of seven natural oils moisturizes, smooths, and helps even skin tone. Softening meadowfoam seed oil restores balance, while wild chamomile calms and soothes skin. Perfect for all skin types and those concerned with skin clarity, calming, and balancing.

Facial Mask – This nutrient-rich kaolin clay mask purifies and balances, absorbing excess oil and drawing out impurities. Activated charcoal minimizes the appearance of pores, giving skin a smooth, refined appearance while salicylic acid stimulates exfoliation. Perfect for all skin types and those concerned with congestion and oily skin.

Lip Conditioner – A personal favorite I use everyday and my lips are so smooth and hydrated! Soothes and softens lips with peppermint and rosemary oils.

I first heard of Tula right before I launched my blog. I had been following quite a few gals that would always post about Tula and it got my curious about the brand which lead me to ordering a few of their best selling products. Talk about obsessed. That was about 4 years ago and I have been an avid follower of their brand ever since.

There are a few reasons why I absolutely love this brand. All of Tula’s products are made with clean, clinically-proven, high-quality ingredients that nourish your skin the same way a healthy diet nourishes your body. They formulate with powerful probiotics, healthy superfoods, and targeted safe ingredients like AHAs, retinol (aka Vitamin A), and Vitamin C to visibly improve the look and overall condition of the skin.

You’re probably wonder why there’s the lone ranger GlamGlow product in this batch of really healthy skincare products. I use masks on a daily basis at this point and have been such a huge fan of GlamGlow since I first heard of them. This mask in particular is my all time favorite right now. It is a limited edition glitter peel-off-mask filled with lots of glitter and stars.

Anyway, on to the stats! Their products are free of parabens, sulfates, and Phthalates. Just after 3  uses over 7 days 98% reported their skin looked renewed, 97% saw an improvement in skin clarity, and 97% felt the mask gently cleared their skin. That’s pretty dang good if you ask me.

    I’ve been wanting to find a sugar-based product. I like that Raw Sugar is all natural, and they donate soaps to families in need.

    I don’t use a lot of makeup and my skin routine is just using a cleanser 2-3 times a day but this is a great list to know. I never knew that something that is supposed to be good for you could be bad, Will try and choose these products.
