{How to Renew Your Contact Lenses at Home}

How to use the Simple Contacts app to take a vision test from your own home and renew your prescription without having to see an eye doctor.

I never thought the day would come where I would be able to skip the optometrist to order my contacts! Does anyone else cringe at the thought of having to make a trip all the way to the eye doctor just to get a prescription refilled?? Don’t get me wrong, I do love going to the optometrist since my friend owns the clinic and it’s great to catch up but sometimes I wish I could just stay in the comfort of my own home and easily order new contacts. Or those times when I am about to go out of town and I look and notice I only have a few days worth of contacts left only to find out my prescription has expired and now I need to make a trip in. It’s just so time consuming and more money than I want to pay most times.

Let me introduce you to Simple Contacts. They have a free, new app that lets you take a full vision test through your iPhone to easily renew your contact prescription from the comfort of you own couch or wherever you may be. This vision test has been created by doctors, is quick, easy and a fraction of the price of a normal exam; only $10! Within 24 hours of your exam being reviewed a new RX and lenses will be on the way. Sound too good to be true? I tested the app on my own and wanted to share my experience with y’all!

First things first. Download the Simple Contacts app from the app store.

Next you will be prompted to start the 5 minute test. Just make sure you are wearing your contacts, have a well lit room and have at least 10 feet of space. You can also take this exam via your phone OR computer. (They don’t mention you probably need something eye level to set your phone on that you can see 10 feet away)

The first part of the test is taking photos of your eyes WITH your contacts in. You will hold the phone 6 inches away from your face and then follow the instructions; looking up, to the right and to the left. I have shown examples below but your face would need to be closer to the screen.

Next is the reading portion of the test. No more, one or two, three or four, two or four. Hallelujah! This is the part where you will need to set your phone on something 10 feet away. I put a chair against the wall and set the phone on top, resting against the wall. Here, you will be asked to read 3 lines of letters from the 10 foot distance. And NO cheating… It knows… As shown in the photo below. 🙂

Once you are done you will be assigned a doctor who will assess your test results and confirm your prescription. You will then be able to pick out which contacts you prefer and then you’re all done!! Literally, takes less than 5 minutes and you’re good to go.

Knowing nothing about how accurate this was I was a little skeptical to see my results. Shockingly, they were dead on… They confirmed the exact prescription I have been wearing for years and everything got approved. I had contacts sent out immediately and received them within the week!

Simple Contacts is accepted by most major insurance companies, such as Cole Managed Vision, Davis Vision, EyeMed, Spectera, VSP, and many others as an out-of-network provider. If you have an out-of-network benefit for contact lenses, you simply purchase your contacts through Simple Contacts and submit the itemized invoice that we send you with your order for reimbursement from your insurance company.

Please note –

If you have certain health issues this test IS NOT for you. You can read all about what is included HERE.

This DOES NOT take the place of an eye health test, which is recommended every 4-5 years.

    I might not wear contacts now, but someday I may switch to them from my glasses. Sounds like an excellent service!
