Happy Monday, my friends! Who else is glad we got an extra hour of sleep?? I don’t know if the time change was a good or bad thing for me… Now I can’t seem to fall asleep until 1am and now I’m sleeping til 9-10am!! I can’t complain though, this rainy weekend made me not want to get out of bed at all!! Grayson was out of town and I finally had a weekend that I wasn’t on a job so Steven and I cuddled on the couch the entire weekend and watched corny girl shows while we could!! How was y’alls weekend??
I’m super excited to finally get this post up on one of my new favorite outfits and favorite designers. Obviously, OTKs are my favorite so that’s not anything new but I do LOVE a great mini skirt for Fall. David Lerner has come out with chicest mini that anyone can pull off and I’m going to tell you how! Mini skirts aren’t the typical go-to for most people’s Fall wardrobe but I have to tell you, everyone needs at least one and you will be hooked. But don’t get just any or it would all go downhill real fast! Haha, but really.
If you’re in the market for a great mini skirt, keep your body type in mind. The one thing I have noticed is that people don’t know what length of skirt will be the most flattering on them. My rule of thumb is to always have a mini skirt hit mid-thigh, no matter how tall or short you are. So, you’ve found your skirt… Now what? Most of us have different body types, so figuring out how to make the outfit actually come together used to be a huge effort. For me, having a long torso and shorter legs makes mini skirts seem like a daunting task but they actually make me look taller than ever!
It’s all about the type of shoe you pair with these skirts. My go-to is ALWAYS a great pair of heeled OTKs. Not only do they elongate but they give the illusion of longer legs. This is one of the looks where I feel so put together and just plain HOT! Anything that gives me the look of longer legs is a must in my book! So what if you are mega tall and you don’t want to be even taller in heeled boots?? Throw on a pair of flat OTKs and you will still get the same look. If you’re not a fan of OTK boots and don’t want bare legs in the winter then opt for a pair of spanx and booties!
Once you’ve got the skirt and shoes picked out, tops are the next task! My favorite thing about these looks is that they are so versatile! I mean, you can literally get away with wearing almost any type of top with a mini. Most mini skirts are a little more on the high-waisted side so if you’ve got that young, skinny body that we all wish for, throw on a crop top and a leather jacket. If you’re not in your 20 year old shape, like me, pair a knotted tee with your skirt. I NEVER tuck in shirts, especially with mini skirts, so make sure you give yourself a waist and give a little extra detail if you are just wearing a basic top and basic skirt. My absolute favorite is throwing on a huge, chunky sweater with a fun mini like I did in THIS post. This also hides my food baby after all of my holiday eating!!
Also, if you’re reading this… I am doing an Ask Ashley Anything post soon and need some questions!! Would y’all mind asking me a question in the comments below?? It can be about my life, work, styling, family, etc. I’d love to hear from you all!!
